Seamless Weaving Initiative

The project consists of the research and development with the seamless weaving process from the loom system, the woven construction, the material allocation, and the applied to apparel design. Seamless weaving takes place from the perspective of an ultimate zero-waste garment manufacturing process, weaving from yarn into a garment.

The design journey is adventurous, taking me to some very distinctive perspective, from the idea of technology innovations, the role of a fashion designer, the actualisation of an unprecedented solution. The journey never ends with potential possibilities in how seamless weaving can be adapted to some of the existing garment making process, for instance, sewing and knitting.

I aim to tackle continuous joints between each of the panels from pattern cutting through seamless weaving, and still construct within the context of dart manipulation and the movements of the body; the existing development in 3D weaving studies around the idea of multilayered structures and tubular formations.

Research and design have collided with the hybrid of both studies, and having to visit textile mills and 3D woven centre enable a deeper understanding of the current market place and business model. The project is keeping on developing, from different machinery produced and developed, hybrid of the whole-garment and seamless weaving, outerwear with seamless weaving alongside multilayered of material for high-performance purposes.
